Guillermin Financial Center

Lynchburg, VA | SF: 27,600 | General Contractor: Skyline Roofing, Inc.

The Guillermin Financial Center in Lynchburg, Virginia, recently received a full commercial roof replacement designed to improve performance, protect essential infrastructure, and reduce long-term maintenance. Covering 27,600 square feet, the Skyline Roofing team brought precision, planning, and expertise to ensure every detail met the demands of this active financial facility.

The Challenge

The existing roof system showed signs of age and deterioration, with loose gravel, outdated flashings, and several abandoned steel penetrations compromising performance. With critical electrical infrastructure located on the rooftop, the project required thoughtful planning and precise execution to safeguard these components while delivering a high-performance system that meets modern standards.

The Solution

Our team began by carefully removing the existing roof materials, including outdated coping, wall and curb flashings, and gravel. The building’s wall hoist was temporarily removed and stored for safe reinstatement at the project’s end.

To protect the building’s electrical system, we constructed a new knee wall and tied it directly into the new roofing system. Penetration holes were filled with 22-gauge steel decking and polyiso insulation to match the surrounding profile, creating a level and secure surface.

Next, we installed new polyiso insulation with tapered panels around the drains to improve drainage and thermal performance. On top of this, we added a fully adhered 60-mil white TPO membrane, induction welded and installed to manufacturer specifications for maximum durability. The system was completed with all-new flashings and terminations for long-term integrity.

We also installed 24-gauge KNR finish coping caps, shop-fabricated for a precise fit along the parapet walls. For additional safety and performance, TPO walk pads were placed at roof access points and beneath mechanical units and satellite platforms to protect the surface.

The Results

This comprehensive re-roofing project delivered a high-performing, energy-efficient system designed for long-term success:

  • A fully welded TPO membrane enhances weather resistance and reduces energy costs.

  • New knee walls and detailed flashing work protect vital electrical systems from water infiltration.

  • Tapered insulation improves drainage, preventing standing water and premature wear.

  • Reinforced walk pads reduce impact in high-traffic areas and under heavy equipment.

  • Backed by a 20-year manufacturer warranty and a 2-year contractor warranty, the new roof system provides confidence for years to come.
