JMU Potomac Dorm
Harrisonburg, VA | SF: 4,000 | General Contractor: S.B. Ballard
At James Madison University, growth is a constant, and Skyline Roofing is proud to be part of that vision. This summer, we partnered with general contractor S.B. Ballard to install a new roofing system on the Potomac Dorm, a brand-new building designed for durability, energy efficiency, and long-term protection.
The Challenge
Constructing a roof for new dorm space requires balancing strength, energy savings, and lasting performance. The 4,000-square-foot roof needed to stand up to Virginia’s weather while helping keep the building comfortable and efficient for students. Unique roofing details and multiple systems called for careful planning and expert installation.
Our Solution
We began by sealing the roof deck to keep out air and moisture, creating a tight building envelope. Next, we installed multiple layers of insulation to improve energy efficiency and comfort inside.
On top of that, we applied a fully adhered, white EPDM-reinforced membrane. This durable roofing system reflects heat to reduce cooling costs and holds up against the elements year-round.
To complete the roof, we installed custom metal edges along the perimeter and placed over 100 walk pads in areas with foot traffic to protect the membrane during maintenance.
Looking Ahead
Backed by a long-term warranty and installed with precision, this EPDM roofing system is built to protect and serve generations of James Madison students. At Skyline Roofing, we’re proud to help create spaces where students can live, learn, and grow for years to come.
