Massanutten Mountain Coaster

Roanoke, VA | SF: 580,000 | General Contractor: Skyline Roofing, Inc.

At Massanutten Resort, we partnered with Harman Construction to complete a unique new construction project: roofing the load and drop-off station for the resort’s new mountain coaster. This fast-paced attraction will welcome thousands of riders each season, and our job was to make sure the roof system supporting all that excitement was designed for durability, performance, and long-term protection.

The Challenge

The mountain coaster station featured a curved, circular layout that required more than a standard roof installation. The design called for roofing across 12 valleys and hips, each demanding precise measurement, expert cutting, and careful planning to create a watertight system. On top of that, the roof needed to withstand mountain weather conditions year-round while maintaining a sleek and professional appearance for guests.

The Solution

Our team installed a 26-gauge Kynar-finished snap-lock metal roofing system with 16-inch wide panels. Each panel locks securely into the next, creating a smooth, streamlined surface free of exposed fasteners. Beneath the panels, we applied ice and water shield along the gutter lines, valleys, and rakes, with synthetic roofing felt covering the full deck for added protection.

To anchor the system, each panel was hemmed, hooked into the drip edge, and locked into place for maximum hold. To complete the project, we shop-fabricated all the trim and installed copper gutters and downspouts, giving the coaster station both durability and character.

The Impact

  • Durable Protection: The snap-lock metal system is resistant to water intrusion and built for mountain weather, ensuring the coaster station remains safe and dependable for guests year-round.

  • Custom Fit: Installation across 12 valleys and hips delivered a seamless finish, giving the resort confidence that the curved design is both functional and visually appealing.

  • Long-Term Value: Protective underlayment and hemmed panels provide strength and longevity, reducing future maintenance costs and keeping operations focused on visitors, not repairs.

  • Craftsmanship: Shop-fabricated trim and copper gutters enhanced both performance and appearance, helping the building match the resort’s high standards for guest experience.
