Bringing Reliability to Nathaniel Greene Elementary School
With students on summer break, Skyline Roofing partnered with Greene County Public Schools to restore the roof at Nathaniel Greene Elementary School; a large, multi-section facility that had been dealing with age-related leaks and ongoing maintenance challenges. The existing ballasted EPDM roof had reached the end of its service life, and temporary repairs were no longer a sustainable option.
Removing the Old and Making Way for the New
To begin the process, our team used a hydrovac system to safely remove the existing stone ballast and expose the aging membrane beneath. This allowed us to prepare the surface for a new roofing system designed to deliver stronger performance, improved drainage, and lasting protection for years to come.
Delivering Efficiency, Performance, and Precision
Every school roofing project brings its own set of priorities, from structural improvements to scheduling constraints. At Nathaniel Greene Elementary, our team focused on:
Enhanced Insulation: Installing a 1-inch insulation layer to strengthen energy efficiency and provide a stable foundation for the new roof system.
Improved Drainage: Adding custom tapered crickets between drains to ensure proper water flow and eliminate ponding across the roof surface.
Seamless Protection: Applying a fully adhered TPO overlay with invisible weld seams to create a clean, watertight surface that enhances both function and appearance.
Reduced Structural Load: Removing the original stone ballast to lighten the building’s load while increasing solar reflectivity and cooling efficiency.
Tight School Timelines: Coordinating closely with Greene County Schools to complete the project within the summer break window, ensuring all work was finished, inspected, and ready before the new school year began.
Delivering a Safer Environment for Students
The new TPO system provides Nathaniel Greene Elementary with reliable weather protection and reduced maintenance needs for years to come. More importantly, it helps create a safe, dry, and comfortable environment for students and staff alike.
We’re proud to support Greene County Public Schools by delivering a roofing solution that safeguards their facilities and contributes to a strong start for the academic year.
